Where Holimo uses AI
| Feature | Who gets it | Where it runs |
|---|---|---|
| Recipe questions, simple substitutions, journal reflection, plain-language explanations | Free, on supported phones | On your phone: Apple’s Foundation Models on iOS 26 with Apple Intelligence, or Gemini Nano on supported Android phones |
| AI coach chat, in the tone you pick | Holimo Pro | Google Gemini API (paid tier), through a Holimo server function |
| Weekly plan adjustment and weekly report | Holimo Pro | Google Gemini API, through a Holimo server function |
| Smart swaps (“make it vegetarian”, “more protein”, “no oven”) | Holimo Pro | Google Gemini API, through a Holimo server function |
| GLP-1 meal and protein suggestions | Holimo Pro | Google Gemini API, through a Holimo server function |
The AI coach is always labelled as AI. Recipes are drafted with AI help and then reviewed by a person; recipe images are AI-generated. Nutrition numbers are always calculated from the USDA food database, never estimated by AI.
What the AI sees
For Pro features, Holimo sends the smallest context that does the job: for example your targets, today’s and this week’s numbers, your meal plan, diets and allergies, and the coach tone you chose. We do not send your name or email address.
What is never sent
- Journal text is never sent to cloud AI.
- Cycle data is not sent unless you turn on “Let the AI coach see cycle data” in Settings → Privacy.
- Questions about crisis, eating difficulties or medication doses never reach the AI model. Holimo answers them with fixed, safe responses and support resources.
We use Google’s paid Gemini API tier, under which Google states that prompts and responses are not used to improve its products. To fill in counsel to confirm against the current Gemini API terms and data processing addendum
Safety rules
These rules are written into every AI instruction and enforced again in code:
- No medication dose, titration or switching advice, and no diagnosis.
- Never below the calorie floors (1,200 kcal for women, 1,500 kcal for men), and no fasting beyond your own setting.
- Weekly plan changes are limited to 150 kcal up or down, and protein never drops below your formula target.
- Swapped recipes have their nutrition recalculated from the food database.
- Signs of eating difficulty end diet coaching and show support resources.
- Answers are checked for diagnosis words and diet-culture language before you see them.
Every AI answer carries a note: “AI can make mistakes. This isn’t medical advice.”
Limits of AI
AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Use its answers as suggestions, check anything important, and talk to a professional about medical decisions. You are responsible for decisions you make using AI answers, within the limits of the law (see our Terms).
Pro AI features have monthly fair-use limits, listed in our Subscription and Billing Terms.
What we keep
Coach messages are stored in your account so you can see the conversation, and are deleted after 90 days. We record how many AI requests you make and their cost, without the content, to apply fair-use limits.
Turning AI off
You don’t have to use AI. Every core feature, including the meal planner, works without it: plans are built by a rules-based solver, not AI. AI processing for Pro features needs your separate consent, which you can withdraw in the app.
